Why Couples In Singapore Prefer Outdoor Weddings

In the past, indoor wedding ceremonies were the rage! Everyone in Singapore went for a restaurant or hotel ballroom ceremony. However, recently since 2010s, many couples opt for an outdoor wedding instead – mostly at parks or beaches. This is increasingly the case in Singapore. In the following article, I have interviewed one of the best local Singapore actual day photographer, Alvin, founder of Grandeur Wedding Studio on this interesting phenomenon that we’re seeing in Singapore right now.

Pik Cam: So what is this interesting phenomenon we’re seeing right now? Is it a ‘Westernization’ of Asian weddings? Or is it something else?

Alvin (Grandeur Wedding Studio): I have to say this is a general trend. As the Internet becomes more proliferate through social media channels such as Facebook or picture heavy Instagram, couples are realizing that an outdoor wedding can be really fun, affordable and looks really good in photographs too. It’s nothing about the westernization of weddings in Singapore.

Pik Cam: Alright, but what do you think is the real reason for outdoor weddings and outdoor pre wedding photography getting more popular then?

Alvin (Grandeur Wedding Studio): I think an outdoor wedding allows for much more creativity. In the past, every couple in Singapore held their weddings in restaurants or hotels and spending a bomb. People also only went for pre wedding studio shoots. Today? Couples finally have a choice and are getting more freedom to choose what they want. I think this is what couples in Singapore always wanted, but never could have had in the past. It’s not a new desire. It’s an old desire that finally got the opportunity to be fulfilled. Good for these couples now! They get lots of choices when it comes to their wedding ceremony, venue, photography etc.

Pik Cam: If a couple were to engage a photographer in Singapore for their wedding ceremony, what are some of the most important advice that you will give to them?

Alvin (Grandeur Wedding Studio): Go for quality. There are couples who really cannot afford to go for a good actual day wedding photographer. However, most couples who make at least $3,000 to $5,000 a month each will be able to easily afford (a once in a lifetime cost) a good actual day wedding photographer in Singapore for only $1,500 to $3,000. There are many amateur photographers advertising their prices for less than $800 or $1,000. My question to them is, if they’re really that good, why would they price it so low? Remember, a photographer is different from others, once he’s booked, he cannot accept other customers during that period of time. Time is very important for a wedding photographer. A great photographer I mean, even the camera costs more than $1,000, will not charge so low for his time.

Pik Cam: True, I guess the most important thing is to look at a photographer’s quality 1st, then prices, and definitely not the other way around…

Alvin (Grandeur Wedding Studio): Yes, that is correct. This is especially the case for actual day photographers, because you cannot repeat the ceremony (at least not without embarrassing yourself). Make sure to pick an experienced studio of photographers who know what they’re doing ūüėČ hint *my studio*.

Pik Cam: Definitely. Alright that’s all we have for today. Thank you Alvin for taking time out of your busy schedule for this email interview.

Alright! So there you get it. The above is my full email interview with Alvin from Grandeur Wedding Studio on why Singapore couples are increasingly opting for outdoor weddings (as well as outdoor pre wedding photography) and how you should ideally pick your wedding photographer for your actual day ceremony in Singapore. Exciting Wedding Photography – Behind The Scenes!

Most people do not engage a wedding photographer more than once – especially not their actual day wedding photographer in Singapore.¬†This means that unless you have been to many family and friends’ wedding ceremonies before, you will not know how it is like¬†for a actual day bridal photographer.

Check out the above video, showing behind the scenes of an actual day photographer in action. This is so that you can better prep yourself at least mentally with respect to your future photographer!

If you need a recommendation, here is Grandeur,¬†Singapore’s best photographer.

Singapore’s Best Photographers – Reviews And Pricing

I have written about . I have also talked about how to pick your photographer in an earlier post here. In this post, I will expand on that by giving reviews and pricing of the top photographers in Singapore, so you can use the information you know from my earlier post to pick the right photographer, as well as picking the right wedding photography packages.

Grandeur Wedding Studio РRating: 4.9 out of 5

One of the very top Singapore wedding photographers, Grandeur Wedding Studios takes amazing looking bridal photographs. In fact, there’s little I need to talk about them, as everybody and every single couple in¬†Singapore already knows about them (shame on you if you don’t!).

Nat Studios –¬†Rating: 4.7 out of 5

A great award winning studio based in Singapore, they specialize in destination wedding photoshoots. Their photos look very dream like and I think they look good. However, I give them a 4.7 rating out of 5 because their real specialty is in destination weddings, and not in Singapore, and also their photo colours are not as vibrant as I would personally prefer my own wedding picture to be.

Bloc Memoire –¬†Rating: 4.8 out of 5

Another top studio in Singapore, they do wedding¬†photography in Singapore. With a team of three photographers, they specialize in local pre wedding photography. I would have to say that the thing that makes them impressionable is not their images they take, but the packaging that their photographs come in. They package their photographs inside these unique wooden thumbdrives, and give them to you. I think that’s cute and something special.

I know some people have tried to ask me about Mindy Tan and Samuel Goh. In my opinion, they’re great photographers, but there is just something that doesn’t seem to quite pop about their photographs. To be honest, I’m not sure what, but it just doesn’t quite elicit the feeling I want to look for when looking at bridal photos.
